REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
Brake pads may contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air. Avoid inhaling any dust from brake surfaces. When cleaning brakes, use commercially available brake cleaning fluids.

  1. Loosen the lug nuts.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sliding main pin and sliding sub pin.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and plug the hoses from the caliper assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mounting bolts and the caliper from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir with a syringe.
  2.  
  3. Attach the brake hoses to the caliper.
  4.  
  5. Press in the piston with a hammer handle or C-clamp.
  6.  
  7. Install the caliper carefully so the boot is not wedged. Install and tighten the sliding main pin and sub pin to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel.
  10.  
  11. Check the fluid level, top off if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Bleed the brake system.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts.
  16.  
  17. Before driving the vehicle press the brake pedal several times.
  18.  

OVERHAUL



  1. Remove the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the cylinder boot from the caliper.
  4.  
  5. Place a piece of cloth or similar article (lint-free) between the piston and caliper.
  6.  
  7. Use compressed air to remove the piston from the caliper. Keep your hands free from the piston exit area.
  8.  

  1. With a seal pick, remove the piston seal from the cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Tap out the boot and sliding bushing. A tapped-ended drift and hammer will do well.
  4.  

To assemble:
  1. Coat all components with clean brake fluid or lithium soap based glycol grease.
  2.  
  3. Install the piston seal, then the piston into the caliper cylinder bore. Seat the piston in the bore with your fingers.
  4.  
  5. Fit the boot into the groove in the cylinder bore and press in the set ring.
  6.  
  7. Install the caliper and brake pads.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheels and lower the truck.
  10.  
  11. Bleed the brake system.
  12.  
  13. Before driving the vehicle press the brake pedal several times.
  14.
