  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Detach the front fender apron.
  6.  
  7. Detach the ABS speed sensor wire.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the steering knuckle from the upper control arm.
  10.  
  11. Matchmark the front and rear adjustment cams to the body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nuts and then the No. 1 and No. 2 adjustment cams.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper control arm.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the upper control arm bolts to 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
  18.  

4Runner
  1. Remove the shock and coil spring assembly.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the upper ball joint as follows:
    1. Remove the cotter pins and loosen the nut.
    2.  
    3. Using a ball joint separator, disconnect the upper ball joint from the control arm.
    4.  
    5. Support the steering knuckle securely.
    6.  
    7. Remove the nut.
    8.  

  6.  
  7. Detach the control arm, by removing the nut, bolt, washers and lowering the arm.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Attach the upper control arm with the washer, bolt and nut. Make sure the arm is stabilized, then tighten the nut to 87 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the upper ball joint to the control arm. Tighten the mounting nut to 80 ft. lbs. (105 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
  4.  
  5. Attach the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp; tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the shock and coil spring assembly.
  8.  
  9. Check the alignment.
  10.

  1. Remove the front wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the shock and coil spring assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the upper ball joint as follows:
    1. Remove the cotter pins and loosen the nut.
    2.  
    3. Using a ball joint separator, disconnect the upper ball joint from the control arm.
    4.  
    5. Support the steering knuckle securely.
    6.  
    7. Remove the nut.
    8.  

  8.  
  9. Detach the control arm, by removing the nut, bolt, washers and lowering the arm.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Attach the upper control arm with the washer, bolt and nut. Make sure the arm is stabilized, and then tighten the nut to 87 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the upper ball joint to the control arm. Tighten the mounting nut to 80 ft. lbs. (105 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
  4.  
  5. Attach the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp; tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the shock and coil spring assembly.
  8.  
  9. Check the alignment.
  10.  

Tundra
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fender apron seal to gain better access to the upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Removed the ABS sped sensor and wire harness.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake and fuel line clamp.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer bar link.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the steering knuckle from the upper bar joint.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the two bolts, and then remove the front and rear alignment adjusting shims.
  16.  
  17. Make not of the number and thickness of the front and rear shims.
  18.  
  19. Unbolt the upper control arm.
  20.  
  21. Remove the bolts, nuts and upper ball joint from the arm.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Attach the ball joint to the arm, tighten to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  2.  

Do NOT lose the camber adjusting shims. Record the position and thickness of the camber shims so that these can be reinstalled to there original locations. Install the equal number and thickness of shims into there locations.

  1. Install the arm to the vehicle, with the shims, and then tighten the mounting bolts to 94 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the steering knuckle to the upper ball joint.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar link.
  6.  
  7. Install the ABS speed sensor and wire harness.
  8.  
  9. Place the wheel into position, hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle; tighten the lug nuts to 83 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Have the alignment checked at a reputable repair facility.
