Toyota calls the distributor pick-up coil the Signal Generator.

  1. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, carefully detach the connector in the harness coming from the side of the distributor.
  2.  
  3. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance of the signal generator (pick-up coil).
  4.  
  5. Measure between at terminals G1 and G() , G2 and G() , and NE and G() . In all cases, the readings should be:
    1. Cold: 185275 k-ohms
    2.  
    3. Hot: 240325 k-ohms
    4.  

  6.  
  7. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the distributor housing assembly.
  8.

    1. Cold: 185275 k-ohms

  5. If the resistance is NOT as specified, replace the distributor housing assembly.
