Thermostat

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 through 6

  1. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container.
  2.  

The thermostat housing is located next to the oil filter

  1. If necessary, disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet housing.
  2.  

It is not necessary to remove the radiator hose from the housing to replace the thermostat.

  1. Remove the two water inlet nuts and remove the water inlet from the water pump cover.
  2.  

Fluid will drain from the housing, have a pan ready.

  1. Remove the thermostat and gasket.
  2.

To install:
  1. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
  2.  
  3. Align the jiggle valve with the protrusion and insert the thermostat to the water inlet.
  4.

  1. Install the water inlet to the water pump cover and tighten the two nuts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm) engine.
  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with coolant.
  4.  
  5. Check the oil level.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine, bleed the cooling system, check for leaks, and verify proper operation of the thermostat.
