Blower Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front

See Figures 1 through 13

It may be necessary to remove the upper radiator shroud to perform this procedure.

  1. Open and support the hood.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 90 seconds to proceed working on the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the power steering and coolant reservoirs.
  6.

  1. Disconnect the coolant reservoir and power steering brackets from the side of the heating unit box.

  1. Remove the two bolts that attach the upper and lower portion of the heater box.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the control cable on the side of the heater unit box.
  4.

  1. Remove the eight nuts retaining the unit.
  2.

  1. Disconnect the heater control valve bracket from the heater box.
  2.  
  3. Separate the top of the control box from the bottom.
  4.

  1. Label and disconnect all wiring harnesses attached to the lower unit. These are the A/C compressor switch and A/C pressure switch wires along with the two upper white harnesses.

  1. Extract the lower housing assembly with the motor and cage from the vehicle.
  2.

  1. Remove the four lower cover retaining bolts.
  2.

  1. Disconnect the blower tube, wiring harness and four mounting bolts.

  1. Pull the motor with cage from the lower heater housing.
  2.

  1. Install the blower motor assembly into the housing in the reverse order of removal. Secure all components and wiring harnesses.

It is not necessary to remove the entire rear cooling unit to access the blower motor assemblies.

If your vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, refer to General Information & Maintenance for information regarding the implications of servicing your A/C system yourself. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 90 seconds to proceed working on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right and left air inlet grilles and air outlet grilles.
  4.  
  5. Remove the filter.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the lower case.
  8.  
  9. Disengage the rear A/C switch.
  10.  
  11. Extract the evaporator assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the right and left blower motor assemblies.
  14.  
  15. Remove the blower resistor.
  16.  
  17. Disassemble the blower motor assemblies to access the motors.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Assremble the blower motor assemblies.
  2.  
  3. Install the blower resistor to the upper case.
  4.  
  5. Install the right and left blower motor assemblies to the upper case.
  6.  
  7. Install the evaporator assembly to the upper case.
  8.  
  9. Attach the rear A/C switch to the lower case.
  10.  
  11. Secure the lower case to the upper case.
  12.  
  13. Install the filter.
  14.  
  15. Attach the right and left air inlet grilles and air outlet grilles.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  

Panasonic

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 90 seconds to proceed working on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Unscrew and remove the right and left suction grilles, register grilles and filters from the lower case.
  4.

  1. Remove the nine screws from the lower case and separate the upper and lower cases.

Empty the drain before removing the lower case.

  1. Unscrew and disconnect the wiring from the blower motor assemblies, then extract them.
  2.

  1. Disengage the eight pawls of the blower case and separate the blower motor assembly into an upper and lower piece.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screw, then the blower motor with the rubber grommet. The blower unit will have the bearing attached to it.

You can first remove the blower motor and the blower before separating them.

To install:
  1. To assemble the motor assembly:
    1. Temporarily secure the blower to the blower motor.
    2.  
    3. Place the blower motor unit on the blower lower case.
    4.  
    5. Visually adjust the blower protrusion so that the clearance between the blower and the blower case on the right side is equal to that of the left side.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the screw and check that the blower rotates smoothly. Assemble the blower upper case to the lower case.
    8.

  3. Install the blower motor assembly to the upper case.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower case and secure it to the upper case.
  6.  
  7. Install the right and left air filters to the lower case.
  8.  
  9. Install the right and left suction grills, and the register grill to the lower case.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
