Removal & Installation



There are 2 ways to replace the oil seal: remove it with the timing chain cover removed, or remove it with the timing chain cover installed.

  1. If the timing chain cover is removed, perform the following:


    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    2.  
    3. Using SST 09950-60010, 09950-70010 and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal until its surface is flush with the timing chain cover edge. Be careful not to tap the oil seal at an angle. Keep the lip free of foreign objects.

    5. Apply multi-purpose grease to the lip of the oil seal.

  3. If the timing chain cover is installed, perform the following:


    1. Using a knife, cut off the lip of the oil seal.
    2.  
    3. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped in tape, pry out the oil seal.
    4.  
    5. After removal, check if the crankshaft is not damaged. If it is damaged, smooth the surface with 400-grit sandpaper.
    6.  
    7. Apply multi-purpose grease to the lip of a new oil seal. Keep the lip free of foreign objects.
    8.  
    9. Using SST 09223-22010 and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the timing chain cover edge. Be careful not to tap the oil seal at an angle. Wipe any extra grease off the crankshaft.
