The front wheel bearings are a cartridge type design and cannot be adjusted.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts and separate the caliper from the mounting and support from the vehicle with wire. Do not allow the caliper to hang low enough as to put tension on the brake hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front disc brake rotor.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the front ABS speed sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Loosen, but do not remove the nuts connecting the steering knuckle to the strut assembly.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts and disconnect the front lower suspension control arm from the lower ball joint.
  20.  
  21. Separate the front drive shaft from the hub/bearing and steering knuckle assembly.
  22.  
  23. Separate the steering knuckle and hub/bearing from the strut assembly.
  24.  
  25. Mount the steering knuckle and hub/bearing assembly securely in a soft vice.

  27. Using SST 09520-00031, remove the hub/bearing assembly from the steering knuckle.
  28.  
  29. Using SST 09950-40011 and SST 09950-60010, remove the inner race (outside) from the hub/bearing assembly.
  30.  
  31. Remove the dust cover.
  32.  
  33. Remove the snap ring using snap ring pliers.
  34.  
  35. Place the inner race on the outside of the bearing and using SST 09527-17011, SST 09950-60010, SST 09950-70010 and a press, remove the bearing.
  36.  

To install

  1. Using SST 09950-60010, SST 09950-70010 and a press, install a new bearing into the steering knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Install a new snap ring using snap ring pliers.
  4.  
  5. Install the dust cover. Torque the 3 bolts to 74 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Using SST 09608-32010, SST 09950-60010, SST 09950-70010 and a press, install the axle hub.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering knuckle to the strut assembly. Torque the nuts and bolts to 113 ft. lbs. (153 Nm)
  10.  
  11. Install the front drive shaft.
  12.  
  13. Install the lower ball joint to the front lower suspension control arm. Torque the bolt and 2 nuts to 105 ft. lbs. (142 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Torque the tie rod end nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and install a new cotter pin.
  16.  
  17. Connect the front ABS speed sensor connector.
  18.  
  19. Install the front disc brake rotor.
  20.  
  21. Install the front disc brake caliper.

  23. Install the front axle hub nut. Torque the nut to 159 ft. lbs. (216 Nm), then stake the hub nut, using a chisel and hammer.

  25. Install the front wheel.
  26.  
  27. Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
  28.  
  29. Check ABS speed sensor signal.
  30.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the front ABS speed sensor connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts and separate the caliper from the mounting and support from the vehicle with wire. Do not allow the caliper to hang low enough as to put tension on the brake hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front disc brake rotor.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts and disconnect the front lower suspension control arm from the lower ball joint.
  18.  
  19. Separate the front drive shaft from the hub/bearing and steering knuckle assembly.
  20.  
  21. Separate the steering knuckle from the strut assembly.
  22.  
  23. Mount the steering knuckle and hub/bearing assembly securely in a soft vice. Using a screwdriver, remove the dust deflector from the steering knuckle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 4 mounting bolts and hub/bearing assembly along with the dust cover.

To install:

  1. Install the hub/bearing assembly and dust cover with the 4 mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the hub/bearing assembly mounting bolts to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Using SST 09950-70010, 09608-320-10 and 09950-60020, press in a new dust deflector.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering knuckle to the strut assembly. Torque the nuts and bolts to 113 ft. lbs. (153 Nm)
  8.  
  9. Install the front drive shaft.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower ball joint to the front lower suspension control arm. Torque the bolt and 2 nuts to 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Torque the tie rod end nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and install a new clip.
  14.  
  15. Install the front disc brake rotor.
  16.  
  17. Install the front disc brake caliper.
  18.  
  19. Connect the front ABS speed sensor connector.
  20.  
  21. Install the front axle hub nut. Torque the nut to 159 ft. lbs. (216 Nm), then stake the hub nut, using a chisel and hammer.
  22.  
  23. Install the front wheel.
  24.  
  25. Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
  26.  
  27. Check ABS speed sensor signal.
  28.
