Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear brake drum.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the rear ABS speed sensor connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove automatic adjusting lever, shoe adjuster and adjusting lever spring from the brake shoes assembly, if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Remove the hub bolts and hub/bearing assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the hub/bearing assembly.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the hub assembly bolts to 38 ft. lbs (52 Nm) on 2002-03 models, or 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm) on 2004-06 models.
  4.  
  5. Install adjusting lever spring, shoe adjuster and automatic adjusting lever from the brake shoes assembly, if removed earlier.
  6.  
  7. Connect the rear ABS speed sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear brake drum.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear wheel.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the rear wheel alignment.
  16.  
  17. Check to ensure that the brakes are free from dragging and that proper braking is obtained.
