Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Matchmark the control arm with the triangle mark on the bushing.
  2.  
  3. Press out the old bushing.
  4.  
  5. Press in the new bushing, aligning the matchmarks.
  6.  

  1. Matchmark the control arm with the triangle mark on the bushing.
  2.  
  3. Press out the old bushing.
  4.  
  5. Press in the new bushing, aligning the matchmarks.
  6.  


NOTE
The RX300 and Highlander do not have replaceable bushings.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Sway bar link
     
    Control arm-to-ball joint bolts
     
    Steering rack mount bolts
     
    Suspension member subassembly (5 bolts and 2 nuts)
     
    Control arm from subassembly (2 bolts, 1 nut)
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Control arm-to-subassembly: 101 ft. lbs. (137 Nm)
     
    Steering rack mount bolts: 101 ft. lbs. (137 Nm)
     

  6.  
  7. For subassembly torques, see the accompanying illustration.

    A: 115 ft. lbs. (157 Nm)
     
    B: 82 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     
    C: 53 ft. lbs. (72Nm)
     
    D: 53 ft. lbs. (72Nm)

NOTE
Fully tighten the lower arm bolts with the wheels on the ground and the suspension jounced a few times.

    Control arm-to-ball joint bolts
     
    Steering rack mount bolts
     
    Suspension member subassembly (5 bolts and 2 nuts)
     
    Control arm from subassembly (2 bolts, 1 nut)

  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Control arm-to-subassembly: 101 ft. lbs. (137 Nm)
     
    Steering rack mount bolts: 101 ft. lbs. (137 Nm)

  7. For subassembly torques, see the accompanying illustration.

    A: 115 ft. lbs. (157 Nm)
     
    B: 82 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     
    C: 53 ft. lbs. (72Nm)
     
    D: 53 ft. lbs. (72Nm)
