Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine, turn the A/C on and let the engine run for 10 minutes at idle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the bolts that attach the discharge and suction hoses to the compressor, disconnect the hoses and cap the lines to avoid system contamination.
  12.  
  13. Remove the alternator.
  14.  
  15. Unplug the electrical connector from the compressor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and the drive belt adjusting bar.
  18.  
  19. Unfasten the bolts and remove the compressor.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt adjuster bar bracket. Tighten bolt A to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm), tighten bolt B to 18 ft. lbs. 25 Nm) and the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the alternator.
  6.  
  7. Lubricate two new O-rings with compressor oil, and install them on the hoses.
  8.  
  9. Connect the hoses and tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Connect the battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant.
  16.  
  17. Start the vehicle, turn the A/C system on and leak test the system

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system using approved equipment.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the fasteners that attach the discharge and suction hoses to the compressor, disconnect the hoses and cap the lines to avoid system contamination.
  12.  
  13. Unplug the electrical connector from the compressor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 3 bolts and the compressor bracket.
  16.  
  17. Unfasten the bolts and remove the compressor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the alternator.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the bracket and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Lubricate two new O-rings with compressor oil, and install them on the hoses.
  6.  
  7. Connect the hoses and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the engine cooling fan assembly.
  12.  
  13. Connect the battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant.
  16.  
  17. Start the vehicle, turn the A/C system on and leak test the system
  18.
