Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar links on both sides.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts and nuts for the stabilizer bar brackets. Remove the brackets and bushing from both sides.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering gear set bolts and nuts, then remove the stabilizer bar from the left side.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Set the stabilizer bar with the white colored side at the left hand side of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar, install the power steering gear set bolts and nuts and tighten to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the brackets and bushings. Prior to installation, place the elastic bushings to the inside of the bushing on the stabilizer bar. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the tie rod end, tighten the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and install a new cotter pin.
  8.  
  9. Install the stabilizer bar links and tighten the nuts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels and tighten to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Perform a wheel alignment check.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar links on both sides.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts for the stabilizer bar brackets. Remove the brackets from both sides.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the power steering pressure tube.
  12.  
  13. Separate the steering intermediate shaft.
  14.  
  15. Remove the power steering gear assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the stabilizer bar No:1 bushing and the stabilizer bar.
  18.  
  19. Remove the power steering gear set bolts and nuts, then remove the stabilizer bar from the left side.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer bar.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar No:1 bushing with the outer side of the bushing stopper on the stabilizer bar as illustrated.

  4.  
  5. Install the steering intermediate shaft and the power steering gear, then connect the pressure feed tube.
  6.  
  7. Attach the tie rod end, tighten the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and install a new cotter pin.
  8.  
  9. Install the brackets and bushings. Tighten the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the stabilizer bar links and tighten the nuts to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the wheels and tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Perform a wheel alignment check.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar links on both sides.
  6.  
  7. Remove the exhaust pipe assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts for the stabilizer bar brackets. Remove the brackets from both sides.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering pressure tube.
  14.  
  15. Separate the steering intermediate shaft.
  16.  
  17. Remove the power steering gear assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield, manifold stay and manifold converter sub-assembly.
  20.  
  21. Remove the stabilizer bar No:1 bushing and the stabilizer bar.
  22.  
  23. Remove the power steering gear set bolts and nuts, then remove the stabilizer bar from the left side.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer bar.
    NOTE
    Install the bushings with the slit facing the rear of the vehicle.

  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar No:1 bushing with the outer side of the bushing stopper on the stabilizer bar as illustrated.
  4.  
  5. Remove the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly, manifold stay and heat shield.

  7. Install the steering intermediate shaft and the power steering gear, then connect the pressure feed tube.
  8.  
  9. Attach the tie rod end, tighten the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and install a new cotter pin.
  10.  
  11. Install the brackets and bushings. Tighten the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the stabilizer bar links and tighten the nuts to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the exhaust pipe assembly.
  16.  
  17. Install the wheels and tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Perform a wheel alignment check.
  20.
