Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing
2000-03
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Inspect the drivers door lock switch for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the LOCK position connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 10, there should be continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the OFF position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 10, there should be no continuity.
    4.  
    5. With the switch at the UNLOCK position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 18, there should be continuity.

  5. Inspect the passengers door lock switch for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the LOCK position connect the ammeter to connections 3 and 6, there should be continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the OFF position, connect the ammeter to connections 3 and 6, there should be no continuity.
    4.  
    5. With the switch at the UNLOCK position, connect the ammeter to connections 3 and 5, there should be continuity.

  7. Inspect the front door key lock and unlock switch for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the LOCK position connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 2, there should be continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the OFF position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 2, there should be no continuity.
    4.  
    5. With the switch at the UNLOCK position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 3, there should be continuity.

  9. Inspect the back door key lock and unlock switch for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the LOCK position connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 2, there should be continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the OFF position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 2, there should be no continuity.
    4.  
    5. With the switch at the UNLOCK position, connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 3, there should be continuity.

  11. Inspect the front door key unlock detection switch for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the OFF (lock set to lock position) connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 4, there should be no continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the ON (lock set to unlock position), connect the ammeter to connections 1 and 4, there should be continuity.

  13. Inspect the rear door key unlock detection switch for continuity if equipped with theft deterrent system as follows:
    1. With the switch in the OFF (lock set to lock position) connect the ammeter to connections 3 and 4, there should be no continuity.
    2.  
    3. With the switch at the ON (lock set to unlock position), connect the ammeter to connections 3 and 4, there should be continuity.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Inspect the front door lock as follows:
    1. Apply a ground to terminal 1 and battery voltage to terminal 4, the lock should lock
    2.  
    3. Apply a ground to terminal 4 and battery voltage to terminal 1, the lock should unlock
    4.  

  4.  
  5. Measure the resistance between terminal 7 and 8 with lock in the locked position. The resistance should be 10 Kohms or higher.
    1. Measure the resistance between terminal 7 and 8 with lock in the unlocked position. The resistance should be below 1 ohm.
    2.  
    3. If the lock does not operate as normally or meet resistance specifications, replace the lock.

  7. Inspect the rear door lock as follows:
    1. Apply a ground to terminal 3 and battery voltage to terminal 2, the lock should lock
    2.  
    3. Apply a ground to terminal 2 and battery voltage to terminal 3, the lock should unlock
    4.  
    5. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 4 with lock in the locked position. The resistance should be 10 Kohms or higher.
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 4 with lock in the unlocked position. The resistance should be below 1 ohm.
    1. If the lock does not operate as normally or meet resistance specifications, replace the lock.

Removal & Installation
Door Lock
2000-03
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with a window handle, remove the handle snapring with a shop towel and remove the handle.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the screw on the inside handle bezel and use a prytool to remove the bezel.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable prytool, pry up on the door switch, unplug the connector and remove the switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove arm rest.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, remove the courtesy light.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper arm rest base panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cap and screw, the 2 screws and pry of the door trim using a suitable pry tool and pull up on the trim panel to remove.
  16.  
  17. Remove the inner weatherstrip.
  18.  
  19. Remove the inside handle screw, disconnect the 2 control links and remove the handle.
  20.  
  21. Remove the service hole cover grommets and service hole cover.
  22.  
  23. Remove the speaker.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 2 bolts and door glass.
  26.  
  27. Remove the outer weatherstrip.
  28.  
  29. Remove the door glass run and lower frame.
  30.  
  31. If equipped with power windows, unplug the regulator connector.
  32.  
  33. Remove the regulator.
  34.  
  35. Place match marks on the regulator motor bracket and regulator gear.
  36.  
  37. Remove the Torx® screws and motor.
  38.  
  39. Remove the inside locking link protector, disconnect the inside handle opening link and using a clip remover, remove the bellcrank and clamp.
  40.  
  41. Disconnect the locking link assembly.
  42.  
  43. If equipped with power locks, unplug the electrical connector.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the 2 links from the outside handle and lock cylinder.
  46.  
  47. Remove the 3 Torx® screws and lock. Remove the lock through the service hole.

To install:

  1. Apply multi-purpose grease to the moving parts of the door lock.
  2.  
  3. Install the lock through the service hole. Apply locking compound to the lock screws and tighten the screws to 43 in. lbs. (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the links to the lock cylinder and outside handle.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with power locks, attach the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the bellcrank and clamp.
  10.  
  11. Connect the inside handle opening link and link protector.
  12.  
  13. Install the motor aligning the marks made earlier.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the Torx® screws and attach the electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the regulator and tighten the bolts to 48 in. lbs. (5 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the outer weatherstrip.
  20.  
  21. Install the glass and tighten the bolts to 48 in. lbs. (5 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Do not block the trim clip sealing with the service hole cover, install the cover and grommets.
  24.  
  25. Attach the control links to the inside handle, install the handle and screw.
  26.  
  27. Install the door trim , screws and cap.
  28.  
  29. Install the upper arm rest bas panel, courtesy light and arm rest.
  30.  
  31. Attach the window switch connector and install the switch.
  32.  
  33. Install the handle bezel and screw.
  34.  
  35. Install the regulator handle with the window closed. Install the plate and regulator handle with the snap ring at a 30 degree angle as illustrated.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Using a pry tool, disengage the front door lower frame bracket garnish clips and remove the garnish.
  4.  
  5. Using a pry tool, disengage the inside handle bezel clips and remove the bezel.
  6.  
  7. Remove master switch assembly screw.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable prytool, pry up on the arm reset base panel and remove the panel.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the door switch screws, unplug the connector and remove the switch.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front door trim panel as follows:
    1. Remove the screws and back frame plate.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 cushion rubbers, screws and the clips.
    4.  
    5. Carefully move the panel upwards to avoid damage.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the 2 cables from the inside door handle.
    8.  
    9. Using a pry tool, disengage the 10 hooks and remove the inner weaterstrip.
    10.  
    11. Remove the 2 screws and inside handle.
    12.

  15. Remove the screw and reinforcement 1 to access and remove the service hole cover.
  16.  
  17. Unplug the door mirror connector unfasten the screws and remove the mirror.
  18.  
  19. Remove the door speaker.
  20.  
  21. Remove the front door rear window frame molding.
  22.  
  23. Open the door window until the bolts appear in the service holes, unfasten the bolts, tilt the rear of the glass upwards and carefully remove the glass.

  25. Remove the glass run.
  26.  
  27. Unplug the window regulator connector, unfasten the regulator bolts and remove the regulator through the service hole.

  29. Remove the Torx® screws and power window motor.
  30.  
  31. Remove the front door rear lower frame bolt and frame.
  32.  
  33. Remove the outside handle cover as follows:
    1. Remove the hole plug.
    2.  
    3. Remove the Torx® screws retaining the outside handle cover with the key cylinder.
    4.  

  34.  
  35. Disconnect the door lock connector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the Torx® screws retaining the front door motor lock and remove the motor through the service hole.

To install:

  1. Apply multi-purpose grease to the moving parts of the door lock. Install a new door lock wire harness packing to the lock.
  2.  
  3. Insert the open rod into the lock and place the lock in position, making sure the outside handle link is engaged correctly with the lock.
  4.  
  5. Apply locking compound to the lock screws and tighten the screws to 42 in. lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the outside handle cover and tighten the screw to 62 in. lbs. (7 Nm). Install the hole plug.
  8.  
  9. Install the front door rear lower frame and tighten the bolt to 71 in. lbs. (8 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the window motor.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the Torx® screws to 48 in. lbs. (5 Nm). and attach the electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Apply grease to the moving parts of the window regulator. Install the regulator and tighten the bolts to 71 in. lbs. (8 Nm) and attach the electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the glass run.
  18.  
  19. Install the glass and tighten the bolts to 71 in. lbs. (8 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Reset the window motor as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch on and open the window half way using the switch.
    2.  
    3. Pull up on the switch until window is closed and hold the switch up for an additional second.
    4.  
    5. Check the window operates normally.
    6.  
    7. If the window does not operate normally, disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 seconds, reconnect the cables and perform the window motor reset steps again.
    8.

  23. Install the mirror and fasten the screws to 71 in. lbs. (8 Nm), then attach the connector.
  24.  
  25. Apply butyl tape to the door panel at the areas illustrated. Pull out the links and connector through the service hole cover and install the cover making sure there are no creases or wrinkles and it is sealing normally.
  26.  
  27. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

Door Lock Switch

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable prytool, pry up on the door switch, unplug the connector and remove the switch.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

2004-06
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable prytool, pry up on the arm reset base panel and remove the panel.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the door switch screws, unplug the connector and remove the switch.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
