To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

Place the end of the coil spring in contact with the lower control arm seat

Lower control arm, spring, and strut arm to the suspension.

Strut arm bolt and lower control arm bolt

Nuts for the strut arm bolt and lower control arm bolt; do not tighten the bolts at this time

Lower control arm to the lower ball joint. Tighten the nut to 80 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).

    New cotter pin

  2.
  3. Remove the support from the upper control arm and steering knuckle.
  4.
  5. Install or connect the following:

Sway bar bracket to the suspension. Tighten the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

Sway bar link to the lower control arm. Tighten the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

  6.
  7. Making sure the coil spring is in its correct position, slowly remove the spring compressor from the coil.
  8.
  9. Install or connect the following:

Shock absorber. Tighten the top nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the bottom 2 bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).

    Wheel

Stabilize the suspension by pushing up and down on the vehicle

Tighten the strut bar nut/bolt to 221 ft. lbs. (300 Nm) and the lower control arm bolt/nut to 148 ft. lbs. (200 Nm).

  10.
  11. Check the front wheel alignment.
  12.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.
  7. Remove the speed sensor connector. Remove the two bolts. Separate the skid control sensor wire.
  8.
  9. Remove the bolt and separate the front flexible hose.
  10.
  11. Remove the upper control arm.
  12.
  13. Remove the shock absorber lower bolt and nut. Remove the three nuts on the upper side of the shock absorber.
  14.
  15. Remove the shock absorber and coil spring from the vehicle.
  16.
  17. Place SST 09727-30021 or equivalent spring compressor in a vise and use to compress the coil spring.
  18.
  19. Hold the shock absorber rod from turning and remove the nut.
  20.
  21. Remove the shock absorber cushion retainer, cushion, and suspension support.
  22.
  23. Remove the shock absorber from the coil spring.
  24.

To install:

  1. Install the shock absorber to the coil spring.
  2.
  3. Install the shock absorber cushion retainer, cushion, and suspension support.
  4.
  5. Hold the shock absorber rod from turning and install a new lock nut. Tighten to 27Nm (20 Ft. Lbs.).
  6.
  7. Loosen and remove the spring compressor.
    NOTE
Always fully tighten rubber bushings when the wheels are in full contact with the ground and the vehicle is at curb height. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension, prior to final tightening of these components.

  8.
  9. Position the shock absorber to its mounting on the vehicle.
  10.
  11. On the left side, install the coil spring onto the body with the lower end of the coil spring facing the outer side of the vehicle.
  12.
  13. On the right side, install the coil spring onto the body with the lower end of the coil spring facing the inner side of the vehicle.
  14.
  15. Install the upper retaining nuts. Torque to 47 ft. lbs.
  16.
  17. Temporarily tighten the lower shock retaining bolt.
