Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  6.  
  7. On 2WD (left side), remove the two nuts, stabilizer bar link, two retainers and two bushings.
  8.  
  9. On 2WD (right side), remove the two nuts, stabilizer bar link, two retainers and two bushings.
  10.  
  11. On 4WD and PreRunner (left side), remove the two nuts and stabilizer bar link.
  12.  
  13. On 4WD and PreRunner (right side), remove the two nuts and stabilizer bar link.
  14.  
  15. Remove the four bolts and the stabilizer bar brackets and bushings.
  16.  
  17. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. On 2WD, tighten the stabilizer bar side bushing bolts to 22 ft. lbs. Tighten the lower arm side bushing bolts to 66 ft. lbs. Tighten the bushing bracket bolts to 22 ft. lbs. Be sure to install the cushion to the portion inside the paint line.
  4.  
  5. On 4WD and PreRunner, tighten the bar links to 66 ft. lbs. Tighten the bushing bracket bolts to 19 ft. lbs.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  6.  
  7. On 4WD and PreRunner, remove the engine undercover subassembly.
  8.  
  9. On 2WD (left side), remove the two nuts, stabilizer bar link, two retainers and two bushings.
  10.  
  11. On 2WD (right side), remove the two nuts, stabilizer bar link, two retainers and two bushings.
  12.  
  13. On 4WD and PreRunner (left side), remove the two nuts and stabilizer bar link.
  14.  
  15. On 4WD and PreRunner (right side), remove the two nuts and stabilizer bar link.
  16.  
  17. Remove the four bolts and the stabilizer bar brackets and bushings.
  18.  
  19. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. On 2WD, tighten the stabilizer bar side bushing bolts to 14 ft. lbs. Tighten the lower arm side bushing bolts to 51 ft. lbs. Tighten the bushing bracket bolts to 16 ft. lbs.
  4.  
  5. On 4WD and PreRunner, tighten the bar links to 52 ft. lbs. Tighten the bushing bracket bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
  6.  
  7. Be sure to install the cushion onto the stabilizer bar with its cut line facing the front.
