Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Using paint, place match marks on the stabilizer shaft next to the insulators.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 4 stabilizer shaft bracket bolts and the two brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link nuts, washers, and bushings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft with the links.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft link nuts and the stabilizer shaft links from the stabilizer shaft.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators from the stabilizer shaft.

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators to the stabilizer shaft utilizing the match marks, made during the removal procedure, to line up the components.
    WARNING
    DO NOT tighten the nuts and bolts completely. The weight of the vehicle must be on the wheels and tires before tightening the nuts and bolts.

  2.  
  3. Install the two stabilizer shaft links to the stabilizer shaft. Secure with two nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer shaft links to the control arm using stabilizer shaft link bushings, washers and nuts.
  6.  
  7. Install the stabilizer shaft. Secure with the 2 brackets and the 4 bolts.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Ensure that the stabilizer shaft is centered, side-to-side. Verify that the stabilizer shaft links are set at a neutral position, as seen from above.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the stabilizer shaft link nuts to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Tighten the stabilizer shaft link nuts to 36 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Tighten the stabilizer shaft bracket bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
