1.6L Engine



  1. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump in order to catch any escaping fluid.
  2.  
  3. If the vehicle has A/C, remove the A/C compressor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power steering reservoir outlet hose from the pump.
  6.  
  7. Remove the reservoir with the outlet hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fitting from the pump and from the power steering gear inlet hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the connector from the power steering pressure switch.
  14.  
  15. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 bolts from the power steering pump.
  18.  
  19. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Secure the power steering pump to the bracket with the 2 bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the connector to the power steering pressure switch.
  6.  
  7. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump. The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.
  8.  
  9. Secure the hose to the pump with the 2 gaskets and the hose fitting. Tighten the fitting to 43.5 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the reservoir with the reservoir outlet hose.
  12.  
  13. Install the reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump. Secure the hose to the pump with the hose clamp.
  14.  
  15. If the vehicle has A/C, install the A/C compressor.
  16.  
  17. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
  18.  
  19. Add power steering fluid to the reservoir.
  20.  
  21. Bleed the power steering system.
  22.  

2.0L Engines



  1. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the power steering reservoir outlet hose from the power steering pump.
  2.  
  3. Remove the reservoir with the outlet hose from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fitting from the power steering pump and from the power steering gear inlet hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the connector from the power steering pressure switch.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 bolts from the power steering pump.
  14.  
  15. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Secure the power steering pump to the bracket with the 2 bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the connector to the power steering pressure switch.

  7. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the power steering pump. The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

  9. Secure the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump with the 2 gaskets and the fitting. Tighten the fitting to 43.5 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the reservoir with the outlet hose to the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Install the power steering reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump. Secure the hose to the pump with the hose clamp.
  14.  
  15. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Add power steering fluid to the reservoir.
  18.  
  19. Bleed the power steering system.
  20.  

2.5L Engines



  1. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the power steering reservoir outlet hose (2) from the power steering pump (3).
  2.  
  3. Remove the reservoir with the outlet hose from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fitting from the power steering pump and from the power steering gear inlet hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the connector from the power steering pressure switch.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 3 bolts from the power steering pump.
  14.  
  15. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle. Install the 3 bolts in order to retain the pump to the bracket and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the connector to the power steering pressure switch.
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering gear inlet hose, the 2 gaskets, and the fitting to the power steering pump. Tighten the fitting to 43.5 ft. lbs. (60 Nm). The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

  7. Install the power steering fluid reservoir with the reservoir outlet hose to the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install the outlet hose to the power steering pump. Install the hose clamp in order to retain the hose to the pump.
  10.  
  11. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Add power steering fluid to the reservoir.
  14.  
  15. Bleed the power steering system.
  16.
