Disassembly & Assembly



Specific to:

Hyundai Tucson 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle and attach Service Tool 09546-2600 or another suitable spring compressor.
  4.  
  5. Compress the coil spring.
  6.  
  7. Remove the self-locking nut from the strut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the insulator, spring seat, coil spring, and dust cover.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the insulator for wear and damage, replace as required.
  12.  
  13. Check the rubber parts for damage or deterioration, replace as required.
  14.  
  15. Install the spring lower pad so that the protrusions fit the holes in the spring lower seat.
  16.  
  17. Compress the spring, using the spring compressor tool.
  18.  
  19. Install the compressed spring over the shock absorber.
    NOTE
    There are 2 color identification marks on the coil spring, one indicates model option and the other indicates load classification. Install the coil spring with the identification mark directed toward the steering knuckle.

  21. After fully extending the piston rod, install the spring upper seat and insulator assembly.
  22.  
  23. After correctly seating the upper and lower ends of the coil spring in the upper and lower spring grooves, tighten the NEW self-locking nut temporarily.
  24.  
  25. Remove the spring compression tool. Tighten the self-locking nut to 43-51 ft. lbs. (60-70 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Hyundai Tucson 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels and tires.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake hose bracket bolts from the strut assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the speed sensor (A) and wire bracket bolts (B) from the front steering knuckle.

  10.  
  11. Make an alignment marking on the camber adjusting bolt and strut for installation alignment approximation later.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front stabilizer control link (A) and nut (B) from the strut.

  15. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts (A).

  17. Remove the front strut mounting bolts from the knuckle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the strut assembly (A) and bolts (B) from its mounting in the steering knuckle.

To install:

  1. Install the strut upper mounting nuts and tighten to: 33-44 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Match the alignment marks made during removal and install the front strut assembly bolts to the front knuckle. Tighten the lower mounting bolts to: 103-118 ft. lbs. (140-160 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar control link mounting nut to the strut assembly and tighten to: 74-89 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the speed sensor and wire bracket bolts. Tightening torque: 60-96 inch lbs. (7-11 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake hose bracket bolt to the axle assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the wheel and the tire to the front hub. Tightening torque: 65-80 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when installing the front wheel and tire.

  12.  
  13. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
