CV-Boots Inspection



  1. Check the Double Offset Joint (DOJ) outer race, inner race, cage and balls for rust or damage.
  2.  
  3. Check splines for wear.
  4.  
  5. Check for water, foreign matter, or rust in the Birfield Joint (BJ) boot.
  6.  
  7. Check the DOJ boot for tears, cuts or holes.
    CAUTION
    When the Birfield Joint assembly is to be reused, do not wipe away the grease. Check that there are no foreign substances in the grease. If necessary, clean the Birfield Joint assembly and replace grease.

Removal & Installation



Front

Specific to:

Hyundai Tucson 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Lower arm ball joint mounting nuts
     

  4.  
  5. Press the stub shaft out of the hub.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the inner joint out of the transaxle.

To install:


NOTE
Use new circlips, split pins, and self-locking nuts for assembly.

  1. Install the inner joint so that the circlip is felt to seat in the retaining groove.
  2.  
  3. Guide the stub shaft into the hub.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Lower ball joint. Tighten the mounting bolts to 74-89 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm)
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Spindle nut and torque the nut to 148-207 ft. lbs. (200-280 Nm)
     
    Front wheel
     

  6.  
  7. Check and/or adjust the wheel alignment.
  8.  

Rear

Specific to:

Hyundai Tucson 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Spindle nut
     
    Trailing arm mounting bolt
     
    Lower arm mounting nuts
     

  4.  
  5. Press the stub shaft out of the hub.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the inner joint out of the differential.
  8.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new circlips, split pins and self-locking nuts for assembly.

  1. Install the inner joint to the differential so that the circlip is felt to seat in the retaining groove and the halfshaft cannot be removed by hand.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Lower arm mounting nuts. Tighten to 104-118 ft. lbs. (140-160 Nm)
     
    Trailing arm mounting bolt. Tighten to 74-89 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm)
     
    Spindle nut. Tighten to 148-207 ft. lbs. (200-280 Nm)
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Rear wheel
