CAUTION
The system is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid danger of releasing scalding engine coolant, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The water pump bolts are different lengths. Note the bolt location for assembly.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Timing belt
     
    Timing belt idler
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Alternator bracket
     
    Water pump and gasket

To install:

  1. Install the water pump with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Alternator bracket
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Timing belt idler
     
    Timing belt
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.

  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt
     
    The timing belt
     
    The timing belt idler
     
    The water pump (A) gasket (B)

To install:

  1. Install the water pump (A) and a new gasket (B) with the 8 bolts. Tightening torque: 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the timing belt idler.
  4.  
  5. Install the timing belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Fill with engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Recheck engine coolant level.
  14.
