The part numbers provided in the following information could change without notice and are provided only as a reference. Always consult your local dealer for the correct power steering fluid for your vehicle.
All vehicles covered by this guide use a special hydraulic fluid in the power steering system. This fluid (G 002 000) is available from your local Audi or Volkswagen dealer.
Do NOT add, mix or top off the power steering fluid reservoir with any fluid other than the G 002 000 hydraulic oil. Using Dexron® Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) as a substitute is not recommended and will damage the system.
On all vehicles the reservoir is located in the engine compartment, near the radiator.
The fluid level should be checked at regular intervals. With the engine running, and the fluid temperature at 122°F (50°C), the fluid level should be between the MAX and MIN marks on the outside of the reservoir, or if equipped, between the MAX and MIN marks on the dipstick. If fluid is added, make sure the filler cap is secured.
