Fuel Supply

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

The supply includes all parts of the fuel system that store fuel and supply it to the engine by the engine management system.

Fuel Storage

The tank is located beneath the car, behind the rear seat. The fuel gauge sending unit and the electric fuel transfer pump are mounted in the top of the tank.

Fuel Pump & Fuel Circuit

An electric transfer pump, in the fuel tank, maintains a constant supply of fuel to the reservoir, which houses the main fuel pump. The fuel reservoir is located beneath the car in front of the fuel tank. The main fuel pump delivers fuel to the fuel distributor in the engine compartment, which is part of the fuel injection system.

A fuel filter is mounted next to the fuel reservoir. The fuel reservoir also houses the fuel accumulator. The accumulator moderates pressure surges from the main fuel pump, and maintains some residual pressure in the system to id in restarting.

A pressure regulator ensures consistent fuel pressure to the fuel injection system and returns surplus fuel to the fuel reservoir.

These vehicles use a single electric fuel pump located in the fuel tank.

The fuel filter is mounted externally of the fuel tank near the fuel tank.
