Vehicle Certification Label

The vehicle certification label is permanently located on the driver-s door lock pillar. Refer to this label in order to obtain the following information:

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), front and rear

The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).

The GVW is the weight of the vehicle and everything the vehicle carries. Include the following items when figuring the GVW:

The base vehicle weight (factory weight)
The weight of any added vehicle accessories
The weight of the driver and the passenger
The weight of any cargo being carried

The front and rear Gross Axle Weights (GAW) must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR), front and ear.

The GAW is the weight exerted on one of the axles (front or rear).

Vehicle Identification Number

The vehicle identification number (VIN) plate is the legal identifier of the vehicle. The VIN plate is located on the upper left hand corner of the Instrument Panel and can be seen through the windshield from the outside of the vehicle.

The VIN is comprised of a seventeen-number-and-letter code which provides the following information about the vehicle:

Position 1: Country of Origin
Position 2: Manufacturer
Position 3: Make
Position 4-5: Carline/Series
Position 6: Body Style
Position 7: Restraint System
Position 8: Engine Type
Position 9: Check Digit
Position 10: Model Year
Position 11: Plant Location
Position 12-17: Plant Sequence Number
