Power Mirrors

Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Inspect the connectors for broken or bent pins and make sure they are firmly attached.
  2.
  3. Inspect the wiring for any obvious signs of damage
  4.
  5. Disconnect the power mirror switch.
  6.
  7. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the power mirror switch harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  8.
  9. If the test lamp does not illuminate, check the battery positive voltage circuit of the power mirror switch for a short to ground or an open
  10.
  11. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the power mirror switch harness connector and the ground circuit of the power mirror switch harness connector.
  12.
  13. If the test lamp illuminate, check for an open in the power mirror switch ground circuit
  14.
  15. Disconnect the power mirror.
  16.
  17. Connect a test lamp between the appropriate mirror motor control circuits of the power mirror harness connector.
  18.
  19. Place the mirror selector switch to the mirror to be tested.
  20.
  21. Activate the power mirror switch in both directions.
  22.
  23. If the test lamp does not illuminate in both directions, check the mirror motor control circuits for an open. If the light does illuminate in both directions, check for a short to voltage in the power mirror motor control circuits.
  24.
  25. If the power mirror were previously disconnected, connect the power mirror.
  26.
  27. If the power mirror switch was not previously disconnected, disconnect the power mirror switch.
  28.
  29. Probe each of the power mirror motor control circuits of the power mirror switch harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to battery positive voltage.
  30.
  31. If the test lamp does not illuminate at any of the power mirror motor control circuits, probe each of the power mirror motor control circuits of the power mirror switch harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground. If the light does not illuminate, repair the short to ground in the power mirror motor control circuit.
  32.
  33. If the connections, wiring and switch are working normally, the mirror should be replaced,
  34.
