Removal & Installation



1ZZ-FE Engine
  1. Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 retainers from the engine cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover from the engine.

  5. Remove the air inlet duct from the throttle body assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) breather hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the throttle position (TP) sensor connector.
  10.  
  11. Rotate the throttle lever and disconnect the accelerator cable and the throttle valve cable, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector of the idle air control (IAC) valve.
  14.  
  15. Drain the cooling system.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 coolant hoses from the throttle body.

  19. Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator control cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 fasteners and the throttle body bracket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 3 throttle body fasteners.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 2 fasteners and the manifold support bracket.
  26.  
  27. Remove the throttle body and the gasket from the intake manifold.
  28.  
  29. Clean any remaining throttle body gasket from the intake manifold.

    Fig. Install a new throttle body gasket (1) onto the intake manifold (2).

  31. Install a new throttle body gasket onto the intake manifold.
  32.  
  33. Install the throttle body onto the intake manifold with the 3 fasteners.

  35. Install the throttle body bracket and the 2 bolts to the throttle body.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  37. Install the 5 throttle body fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

  39. Install the manifold support bracket to the throttle body with 2 bolts. Install the 2 fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  40.  
  41. Install the accelerator control cable bracket to the throttle body with 2 bolts. Install the 2 fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  42.  
  43. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  44.  
  45. Connect the PCV breather hose to the throttle body.
  46.  
  47. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  48.  
  49. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  50.  
  51. Install the air inlet duct.
  52.  
  53. Refill the cooling system.
  54.  
  55. Install the engine cover to the engine and secure engine cover with the 2 nuts. Secure the engine cover with the 2 nuts. Tighten the fasteners to 62 inch lbs (7 Nm).

  57. Install the 2 retainers to the engine cover.
  58.  

2ZZ-GE Engine
  1. Remove the 4 fasteners from the engine cover.

  5. Remove the air inlet duct from the throttle body assembly.
  6.

  11. Rotate the throttle lever and disconnect the accelerator cable and the throttle valve cable, if equipped.

  15. Drain the cooling system.

  17. Remove the 2 coolant hoses from the throttle body.

  19. Remove the 2 throttle body nuts and the accelerator control cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 throttle body bolts.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body and the gasket from the intake manifold.

  25. Clean any remaining throttle body gasket from the intake manifold.

To install:

  1. Install a new throttle body gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body onto the intake manifold with the 2 bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the accelerator cable bracket and the 2 nuts to the throttle body.
    NOTE

  7. Tighten the 4 throttle body fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Connect the PCV breather hose to the throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the air inlet duct.
  18.  
  19. Refill the cooling system.
  20.  
  21. Install the engine cover to the engine.
  22.  
  23. Secure the engine cover with the 4 fasteners. Tighten the fasteners to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
