REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except 1968-69 Type 2 Models

On type 2 models, the parcel tray must be lowered to access the back of the speedometer.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  

On the Type 3, it is necessary to remove the fuse panel to gain access to the speedometer.

  1. Disconnect the speedometer light bulb wires.
  2.  
  3. Unscrew the knurled nut which secures the speedometer cable to the back of the speedometer. Pull the cable from the back of the speedometer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two knurled nuts which secure the speedometer brackets. Remove the brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove the speedometer from the dashboard by sliding it out toward the steering wheel.
  8.  
  9. Reverse the above steps to install. Before fully tightening the nuts for the speedometer brackets, make sure the speedometer is correctly positioned in the dash.

1968-69 Type 2 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fresh air control lever knobs.
  4.  
  5. Remove the Phillips head screws at the four corners of the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the speedometer cable.
  8.  
  9. Lift the instrument panel out of the dash far enough to disconnect the wiring, then remove the instrument panel. Remove the two long screws, separate the panel halves, then remove the screws and remove the speedometer. Installation is the reverse of removal.
