The coil spring front suspension system is found only on 1980-81 Type 2 (Vanagon) models. All other models are equipped with either the strut front suspension system or the torsion bar front suspension system, both of which are covered earlier in this section.

The front suspension consists of upper and lower control arms, a separate upper coil spring/shock absorber mount, steering knuckle and attaching ball joints and a strut arm mounted on the lower control arm for stability.
