Ignition Coil

TESTING



Primary Resistance Check (Non-Electronic Ignition)
  1. Disconnect all wires from the ignition coil.
  2.  
  3. Connect ohmmeter leads to terminals 15 (positive) and 1 (negative) on the top of the coil.
  4.  
  5. The ohmmeter should read between 1.7 and 2.1 ohms. If much higher, replace the coil.
  6.  

Secondary Resistance Check (Non-Electronic Ignition)
  1. Disconnect all wires from the ignition coil.
  2.  
  3. Connect ohmmeter leads to terminals 1 (negative) and 4 (large, center plug-in terminal).
  4.  
  5. The ohmmeter should read between 7,000 and 12,000 ohms. If much higher, replace the coil.
  6.
