Brake cable adjustment is performed at the handbrake lever in the passenger compartment on all vehicles except Type 2 models. There is a cable for each rear wheel and there are two adjusting nuts at the lever. On Type 2 models, adjust from below the vehicle.
To adjust the cable, loosen the locknut. Jack up the rear wheel to be adjusted so that it can be hand spun. Turn the adjusting nut until a very slight drag is felt as the wheel is spun. Then back off on the adjusting nut until the lever can be pulled up three notches on all models except Type 2's, six notches on Type 2 models.

- Remove the brake drums and detach the cable end from the lever attached to the rear brake shoe.
- Remove the brake cable bracket from the backing plate and remove the cable from the vehicle.
