SEAT BELT/STARTER INTERLOCK

Print

All 1974 and some early production 1975 models are equipped with a seat belt/starter interlock system to prevent the driver and front seat passenger (if applicable) from starting the engine without first buckling his/her seat belts. The proper sequence is: sit in the seat(s), buckle up, start the engine. If this sequence is not followed, a warning system is activated which includes a "fasten belts" visual display and a buzzer. If the engine should stall with the ignition switch turned ON, the car may be restarted within three minutes. Late production 1975 models are not equipped with this system.
