Brake Light Switch

Print

The brake light switch is located at near the pivot point of the brake pedal. When the brake pedal is pressed down the actuating plunger of the brake light switch is released and completes the electrical circuit to operate the brakes lights. When the brake pedal is released, the pedal's shaft should press against the brake light switch plunger, and if properly adjusted, it should 'open' the brake light switch circuit.

Adjustment

  1. Remove the lower dashboard trim to access the brake light switch.
  2.
  3. Loosen the switch locknuts.
  4.
  5. Press and hold the brake pedal down by hand and check the clearance between the pedal and the plunger. The clearance should be 0.004-0.020 inches (0.1-0.5mm).
  6.
  7. If necessary loosen the locknuts and adjust the switch.
