Manual Steering Gear

Level Check

The rack and pinion steering gear is filled with a special steering rack lubricant and sealed at the factory. If a steering boot has failed, leaked or been damaged the area under the boot must be thoroughly cleaned, properly lubricated and the boot replaced.

If any fluid leaks are noticed from the steering rack, the rack assembly must be repaired or replaced.

Check the power steering reservoir fluid at least once a month and top off as necessary using the recommended fluid. If the fluid level continues to decrease, locate the cause of the leakage.

Operating the vehicle with a low power steering fluid level could damage one or more of the components of the hydraulic system.
