  1. Remove the window regulator handle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the arm rest.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door lock knob.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner door handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Using a flat screwdriver, gently separate the door trim panel clips from the door.
  10.  
  11. Lift the panel to remove it and disconnect the speaker or mirror wires as required.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the sheet of plastic behind the panel is properly sealed against the metal to keep drafts out of the interior.

Cabrio, Golf, Gti & Jetta
Driver Side Door

NOTE
This procedure is for models with power windows. If equipped with manual windows, refer to the procedure for the Passenger Side Door Panel.


NOTE
Do not grasp in grip depression when pulling off grip recess, as there is a strut secured to door trim underneath.

  1. If necessary, make sure you have the radio code.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the ignition if OFF , then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Insert a suitable prytool in lower partition between the panel and grip recess.

  7. Unclip the grip recess upward out of door trim. Do NOT reach into grip depression while doing so, to prevent damage to brace.
  8.  
  9. Press the locking lug against the connector (3 - arrow) and pull it off.

  11. Unscrew the 7 mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Unclip the door trim at the sides using disassembly pliers 3392, or equivalent.
  14.  
  15. Lift the door trim up out of window recess.

  17. Unclip the cable guide using a prytool, pull out the bracket in the direction of the arrow, then unhook the cable hook.

  19. Disconnect the connectors and remove the trim panel from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Pull off the window recess seal from door trim and insert in window recess.

  3. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
    1. Before installing door trim, check all clips and replace as necessary, and insert into mounts of door trim.
    2.  
    3. After connecting battery, check that the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, electric windows) is operating properly.
    4.  
    5. If the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is subject to low voltage with ignition on, DTC memory and Readiness code must be checked with a scan tool.

Passenger Side Door
  1. If necessary, make sure you have the radio code.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the ignition if OFF , then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable prytool, pry out the trim from the handle.

  7. Unfasten the door trim panel bolts.
  8.  
  9. Unclip the door trim at the sides using disassembly pliers 3392, or equivalent.
  10.  
  11. Lift the door trim upward out of window recess.

  13. Unclip the cable guide (1) using a suitable prytool (2), pull out the bracket (3) in direction of arrow, then unhook the cable hook (4).

  15. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Pull off the window recess seal (1) from the door trim and insert in window recess.

  3. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
    1. Replace clips before installing door trim.
    2.  
    3. When installing, make sure that the metal nut for the top, front bolt is seated properly.

Rear Door
  1. If necessary, make sure you have the radio code.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the ignition if OFF , then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable prytool, pry out the trim from the handle.

  7. Unfasten the bolts, then unclip the door trim at the sides using disassembly pliers 3392, or equivalent.

  9. Lift door trim upward out of window recess.
  10.  
  11. Unclip the cable guide using a prytool, pull out the bracket in the direction of the arrow, then unhook the cable hook.

  13. Detach the harness connector and remove the door trim panel.

To install:

  5. Insert a flat screwdriver between the handle trim and handle, and carefully press handle trim off door trim.

  7. To remove the window crank handle:
    1. Slide the spacer ring in direction shown (securing clip is released) and pull window crank from mechanism.

  9. Remove the3 mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Unclip the door trim at the sides using Pliers 3392 .

  13. Lift the door trim upward out of window recess seal.
  14.  
  15. Unclip the cable guide using a flat screwdriver, pull out the bracket in the direction of the arrow, and unhook the cable hook.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the harness connectors and remove the door panel from the vehicle.
