Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Clamp the Spring Compressor VAG 1752/2 or equivalent in a vise.
  6.  
  7. Install the strut into the spring compressor.
  8.  
  9. Pry off the mounting bolt cap.
  10.  
  11. Compress the coil spring and remove the self-locking nut from the piston rod.
  12.  
  13. Matchmark the position of the spring retainer and spring mount.
  14.  
  15. Remove:

    Spring seat and related components noting the order of removal.
     
    Strut from the spring compressor.
     
    Spring out of the compressor.

To install:

  1. Install the new spring into the compressor.
  2.  
  3. Compress the spring and insert the strut through the spring.
  4.  
  5. Install the spring seat and related components in the reverse order as they were removed and aligning the matchmarks.
  6.  
  7. Install a new self-locking nut.
  8.  
  9. Reinstall the mounting bolt cap.
  10.  
  11. Release the spring compressor and install the strut into the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove wheel.
  4.  
  5. Insert spring compressor V.A.G 1752/3A.
  6.  
  7. Use wrench or ratchet for tightening spring compressor.
  8.  
  9. Compress coil spring until it can be removed.
  10.  
  11. Remove spring.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
Note installation position.

  1. The spring start must touch bottom of spring seat.
  2.  
  3. Install spring together with spring seat.
  4.  
  5. Lower spring support has a pin.
  6.  
  7. Insert this pin into hole of lower transverse link, then insert upper spring support into upper end of spring.
  8.  
  9. Release tension of spring, guiding upper spring support onto tab of body.
  10.  
  11. Remove spring tensioner.
  12.  
  13. Install rear wheel.
  14.
