To install:

  1. Connect the wiper motor to the electrical plug and actuate the motor to return the motor to the parked position, if necessary. Install the motor on the linkage and press on the crank arm. The arm should make a straight line with the drive linkage while in the parked position. Install the nut on the motor shaft. Press on the linkage arms.

  3. Installation is in reverse order of removal noting the following:

  5. Cycle the wiper motor to park and install the wiper arms. Close the hood and check the operation of the wipers and adjust as necessary.
  6.  


NOTE
The wiper arms and cowl panel must be removed before removing the wiper assembly (wiper motor, frame and linkage).

  1. Before removing wiper arms, briefly run wipers and make sure the wiper motor is in park position. This will ensure that the wiper arm end position is correctly set during installation.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiper arms, as follows:
    1. Pry off caps of the wiper arms, then loosen but do not remove the nuts.

    3. Place the locating arms of puller T10130 under the wiper arm as shown in the illustration.

    5. Turn the spindle screw clockwise until it engages the wiper shaft and previously loosened nut (the nut serves as a centering guide for spindle .
    6.  
    7. Continue to turn the spindle screw clockwise until the wiper arm releases from shaft.
    8.  
    9. Turn spindle screw counterclockwise until you can remove the puller from the assembly.
    10.  
    11. Remove the nut completely, then remove the wiper arm.
    12.  
    13. Repeat for remaining wiper arm.
    14.

  7. Remove the cowl panel, as follows:
    NOTE
    The cowl panel is clipped into a guide rail below windshield.

    1. Pull the rubber seal out, then remove the bolts, if equipped.

    3. Remove pollen filter cover.
    4.  
    5. Unclip inner fender trim on both sides.
    6.  
    7. Carefully press cowl panel out upward.

  9. To remove the wiper assembly, perform the following:
    1. Disconnect the electrical connection from the wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Remove the hex bolts and washers.
    4.  
    5. Remove the complete wiper assembly.
    6.

  11. To separate the wiper motor from the frame, perform the following:
    1. Lever both linkages from crank using pry lever 80-200, or equivalent pry lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the hex nut.
    4.  
    5. Remove the crank.
    6.  
    7. Remove the three mounting bolts.
    8.  
    9. Remove the wiper motor from the frame.

To install:

  1. To install the wiper motor in the frame, perform the following:
    1. Make sure the wiper motor is in park position by briefly connecting electrical connection to wiper motor, and operating wiper switch.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect electrical connection, insert wiper motor into frame and tighten three mounting bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the crank onto wiper motor shaft, aligning the linkages so that they are in-line.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the crank hex nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Press the linkages onto crank.
    10.

  3. Install the wiper assembly in the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
    1. Make sure the ends of cowl panel are inserted under cowl panel rubber strip on the A-pillar.

  5. Install the wiper arms, as follows:
    NOTE
    Wiper arm nuts (1) must be only be torqued after the wiper blade park position is adjusted properly.

    1. Turn the ignition ON and briefly turn wipers on and off (wipers must come to a complete stop).
    2.  
    3. Turn the ignition OFF , then remove the ignition key.
    4.  
    5. Mount wiper arms to wiper shaft and loosely install nuts, but do NOT tighten yet.
    6.  
    7. Adjust wiper blade park position, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    8.  
    9. After adjustment is completed, tighten the wiper arm nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Reinstall cover caps.

NOTE
The wiper arm and cowl panel must be removed to remove the wiper frame with rods and wiper motor.

  1. Before removing the wiper arms, make sure the wiper motor is in park position. The wiper position will only be correct during installation is the wipers are in the park position
  2.  
  3. If necessary, note the radio code.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. To remove the wiper arms:
    1. Pry off the black cover caps using a prytool
    2.  
    3. Loosen the M8 wiper arm hex nuts, but do not remove completely.
    4.  
    5. Rock wiper arms back and forth on shaft until you can feel them release.
    6.  
    7. Remove hex nuts completely and remove wiper arms.
    8.

  9. If wiper arm does not release easily from shaft after loosening nut, do try to force it. Use a puller and perform the following:
    1. Place locating arms of puller T10130, or equivalent puller, under the wiper arm as shown.
    2.  
    3. Turn the spindle screw clockwise until it engages the wiper shaft and previously loosened nut (the nut serves as a centering guide for the spindle).
    4.  
    5. Continue to turn the spindle screw clockwise until the wiper arm releases from the shaft.
    6.  
    7. Turn the spindle screw counterclockwise until puller can be released from assembly.
    8.  
    9. Remove the nut completely, then remove the wiper arm.
      NOTE
      The cowl panel is attached to a window guide underneath the windshield.

  11. To remove the cowl panel, pull up on the plenum panel rubber gasket and remove it. Then carefully pry cowl panel off upward.
  12.  
  13. Unfasten the hex screws, then pull the plenum panel divider slightly forward.
  14.  
  15. Remove the M6 hex bolts and washers from the wiper assembly.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect harness connector from the wiper motor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the wiper frame with the motor as a complete assembly.
  20.  
  21. To separate the wiper motor, perform the following:
    1. Pry the rods from the crank using a large prytool
    2.  
    3. Unfasten the 3 securing bolts from the wiper motor.
    4.  
    5. Remove the wiper motor from wiper frame.
    6.  
    7. Remove the hex nut, then remove the crank.

To install:

  1. To install the wiper motor in the frame:
    1. Run motor to park position, connect harness connector and operate wiper switch briefly.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect harness connector again and tighten M6 motor securing bolts. Tightening to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the crank and align so rods are in line, as shown in the illustration.

    7. Tighten M8 hex nut and press rods onto crank again. Tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

    9. Install the remaining components in the reverse of the removal procedure.

NOTE
Before removing the windshield wiper arms, make sure windshield wiper motor should be in the rest position. The motor must be in the rest position for the wiper arms be adjusted properly during installation.

  1. Turn the wipers on and let run until they are in the rest position. Turn the wipers off while they are in the rest position.
  2.  
  3. Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Pry off the wiper arm nut black covers.
  8.  
  9. Loosen, but do not remove the wiper arm mounting nut.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the wiper arm from the cone by rocking them sideways back and forth.
  12.  
  13. Unscrew the mounting nut completely and remove wiper arm.
  14.  
  15. Repeat for the other wiper arm.
  16.  
  17. To remove the plenum chamber cover, refer to the illustration and perform the following:
    1. Push the battery cover (1) aside (arrow A) and remove.
    2.  
    3. Remove the rubber seal (2) toward front (arrows B).
    4.  
    5. Remove the plenum chamber cover (3) toward front and remove from vehicle.

  19. Remove the cowl, as follows:
    NOTE
    The cowl is attached to the metal plate edge below the windshield. On vehicles manufactured through 9/00, the cowl is secured using a Phillips head screw. On vehicles manufactured after 10/00, the cowl is

    1. For vehicles through 9/00, remove the Phillips head screw and carefully pry the cowl upward and off.
    2.  
    3. Remove left and center metal clips toward the front of the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Carefully pry cowl upward and off.
    6.

  21. Unfasten the metal bolts from lid of protective housing for control modules and remove lid.

  23. Remove internal mounting nut of protective housing.

  25. Unscrew mounting nut from protective housing.
  26.  
  27. Remove protective housing from rubber mounting and push slightly forward.
    1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
    2.

  29. Unfasten the mounting bolts.

  31. Remove the wiper frame together with the windshield wiper motor, as follows:
    1. Using pry lever 80-200, or equivalent tool, pry the linkage (1) from the motor crank.
    2.  
    3. Unscrew the M8 mounting nut (2).
    4.  
    5. Remove motor crank from wiper motor shaft.
    6.  
    7. Remove three M6 mounting bolts (3) and remove Windshield Wiper Motor V from wiper frame.

To install:

  1. Make sure the wiper motor is still in the rest position. If necessary, connect the battery and the connector to wiper motor. With the ignition ON , briefly operate Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch. Turn the ignition OFF , disconnect the battery and the connector from the wiper motor.
  2.  
  3. Secure Windshield Wiper Motor V to wiper frame using three M6 mounting bolts - 3 - .
  4.  
  5. Tighten all mounting bolts to the specifications in the accompanying table.

  7. Attach motor crank loosely onto wiper motor shaft.
  8.  
  9. Align motor crank and linkage without displacing wiper motor shaft.
  10.  
  11. Press the linkage on to motor crank again.
  12.  
  13. Install the wiper frame in the reverse of the removal procedure.
  14.  
  15. Connect harness connector to connection of Windshield Wiper Motor V and engage it.
  16.  
  17. Install the plenum chamber cover, protective housing for control modules and cowl in reserve order of removal.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Install the wiper arms, in the reverse of the removal procedure and check for proper operation.
  22.  

Wiper Switch



Removal & Installation
  1. Disarm the air bag system and remove the steering wheel as described in the beginning of this Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the horn pad from the steering wheel.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the front wheels are straight ahead and remove the nut and the steering wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the wiring to the switches.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws to remove the turn signal switch and the windshield wiper switch.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the steering wheel nut to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
