Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove any necessary components to access the wheel speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the bolt from wheel speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Pull the ABS wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
  10.  
  11. Unclip the sensor wire from the bracket.
  12.  
  13. Detach the wheel speed sensor harness connector.

To install:

  1. Attach the wheel speed sensor harness connector for the wheel speed sensor wire. The two tabs at the connectors for harness connector must be aligned with each other.
  2.  
  3. Clip the wire into the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Clean the inner surface of the wheel speed sensor bore hole and coat sensor completely with securing grease G 000 650, or equivalent suitable grease.
  6.  
  7. Insert wheel speed sensor into opening of wheel bearing housing, then tighten the bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm). Note the proper assembly sequence: Install the sensor next and then wire; starting at sensor, install in appropriate brackets along with rubber grommets
  8.  
  9. Turn the wheels completely to left and right stop positions and check clearance to ABS wheel speed sensor wiring.
  10.  
  11. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Rear
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove any necessary components to access the wheel speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. For vehicles with brake pad wear indicator, additionally rotate harness connector for brake pad wear indicator by 90° and remove from cable channel to side.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect harness connector for brake pad wear indicator.
  10.  
  11. Remove bolt from wheel speed sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove wheel speed sensor from control arm.
  14.  
  15. Unclip wire - arrow A - and - arrow B - from bracket at control arm.

  17. Disconnect the harness connectors.
  18.  
  19. Unclip the wire from the bracket in the direction of the arrow, as shown in the accompanying illustration.

To install:

  1. Before installing the wheel speed sensor, clean inner surface of bore hole and coat sensor completely with securing grease G 000 650.
  2.  
  3. Insert wheel speed sensor in hole of control arm and tighten the bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm). Note the assembly sequence: Install sensor next and then wire; starting at sensor, install in appropriate brackets along with rubber grommets
  4.  
  5. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
