Adjustment



The wheel bearings are sealed; no adjustment is necessary or possible.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the tension on the torsion bar.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the halfshaft retaining bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect:

    Front wheel.
     
    Lower bolt for stabilizer bar/coupling rod.
     
    Caliper bracket mounting bolts and wire caliper aside.
     
    Brake rotor and backing plate.
     
    Tie rod end from the wheel bearing housing.
     
    Threaded connection for upper ball joint.

NOTE
Mark position of eccentric bushing to wheel bearing housing or the front axle must be adjusted on the wheel alignment stand.



Wheel bearing housing.
 

  1. Place the wheel bearing housing on a press.
  2.  
  3. Drive out the hub with the wheel bearing.
  4.  
  5. Using a bearing separator and press, drive hub out of the bearing.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Press the new wheel bearing into the bearing housing using the appropriate bearing driver.
  2.  
  3. Press the hub into the wheel bearing using the appropriate bearing driver.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel bearing housing. Torque M16 bolts to 207 ft. lbs. (280 Nm), torque M18 bolts to 262 ft. lbs. (355 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Reverse the removal procedure to install remaining components, using the following torque values:

    Eccentric bushing nut: 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
     
    Upper ball joint nut: New self-locking nut: 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm) plus 90°.
     
    Tie rod end. New self-locking nut: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Bolt: 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
     
    ABS wheel speed sensor.
     
    Brake backing plate. Retaining bolts: 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Brake rotor.
     
    Brake caliper. Retaining bolt: 15 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Wheel lug bolts: 125 ft. lbs. (170 Nm).
     
    Halfshaft retaining bolt: 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm) plus 90°

  3. Relieve the tension on the torsion bar.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the halfshaft retaining bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect:

    Front wheel.
     
    Lower bolt for stabilizer bar/coupling rod.
     
    Caliper bracket mounting bolts and wire caliper aside.

    Tie rod end from the wheel bearing housing.
