Removal & Installation




NOTE
When working on the steering column, always replace self-locking nuts and bolts. Welding or straighten work on any steering components is not permissible. All parts identified with 1) must be assembled outside the vehicle.


CAUTION
To avoid personal injury when working on vehicles equipped with an air bag, the negative battery cable must be disconnected before working on the system. Failure to do so may result in deployment of the air bag.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Wait 10 minutes for the battery back-up power to discharge.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air bag unit and steering wheel, as outlined under the Steering Wheel Removal & Installation procedure in this section.
  10.  
  11. Remove the trim below the steering column switch.
  12.  
  13. Remove the trim above the steering column switch.
  14.  
  15. Detach the connector from the steering column by pulling in direction of the arrow, shown in the accompanying illustration.

  17. Disconnect harness connectors to signal and windshield wiper switch.
  18.  
  19. Unfasten the mounting bolts, then disconnect signal and windshield wiper switch from steering column.

  21. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Turn Signal (Combination) Switch
