Wheel Bearings

Adjustment



The wheel bearings are sealed; no adjustment is necessary or possible.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the drive axle bolt with vehicle resting on its wheels.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support vehicle and remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect:

    Wheel bearing threaded connection.
     
    ABS speed sensor.
     
    Parking brake cable at caliper.
     
    Brake caliper and suspend out of the way.
     
    Brake rotor and backing plate.
     

  8.  
  9. Using a puller, press the wheel hub out of the control arm.
  10.  
  11. Using a puller, press the wheel bearing out of the control arm.
  12.  
  13. Place the wheel hub in a vise and press out the inner bearing race.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Carefully press the new race into the wheel hub.
  2.  
  3. Press the new wheel bearing into the control arm until it reaches the stop.
  4.  
  5. Press the wheel hub into the control arm until it reaches the stop.
  6.  
  7. Reverse the removal procedure to install remaining components, using the following torque values:

    Brake backing plate. Retaining bolts: 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Brake rotor.
     
    Brake caliper. Retaining bolt: 15 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Parking brake cable.
     
    ABS wheel speed sensor.
     
    Wheel lug bolts: 125 ft. lbs. (170 Nm).
     
    Drive axle retaining bolt: 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm) plus 90°.

  9. Using a puller, press the wheel hub out of the control arm.
  10.  
  11. Using a puller, press the wheel bearing out of the control arm.
  12.  
  13. Place the wheel hub in a vise and press out the inner bearing race.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Carefully press the new race into the wheel hub.
  2.  
  3. Press the new wheel bearing into the control arm until it reaches the stop.
  4.  
  5. Press the wheel hub into the control arm until it reaches the stop.
  6.  
  7. Reverse the removal procedure to install remaining components, using the following torque values:

    Brake backing plate. Retaining bolts: 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Brake rotor.
     
    Brake caliper. Retaining bolt: 15 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Parking brake cable.
     
    ABS wheel speed sensor.
     
    Wheel lug bolts: 125 ft. lbs. (170 Nm).
     
    Drive axle retaining bolt: 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm) plus 90°.
