Rear Hatch
  1. Open the rear hatch fully and support it in place.
  2.
  3. Carefully remove the trim fasteners with a flat screwdriver and remove the trim.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the wiring and any tubing.
  6.
  7. Remove the ball studs from both the upper and lower ends of the struts and remove them.
  8.

NOTE
Never disassemble the support strut, as it is filled with high pressure gas. Do not turn the piston rod and the cylinder when the piston rod is extended. When discarding the strut, drill a 2-3mm (0.08-0.12 inch) hole in the bottom of the damper or use a hack saw to release the gas. Make sure to protect yourself against any metal particles that may be thrown into the air by the compressed gas during drilling.

  1. Remove the rear hatch hinge bolts and remove the rear hatch.
  2.
  3. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  4.

Trunk Lid
  1. Open and support the trunk lid securely.
  2.
  3. If necessary, remove the inner panel to disconnect any wiring or tubing.
  4.
  5. Mark the position of the trunk lid hinge in relation to the trunk lid.
  6.
  7. With an assistant, remove the two bolts attaching the hinge to the trunk lid. Remove the trunk lid from the vehicle.
  8.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Align the scribe marks and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.

ALIGNMENT

Rear Hatch
  1. To align the front-to-rear position of the hatch, loosen the hinge attaching bolts on both the hatch and the body.
  2.
  3. Position the hatch so the gap is even all the way around the hatch.
  4.
  5. To adjust the hatch closing position, loosen both the lock and striker bolts.
  6.

Trunk Lid

To make the front-to-rear or side-to-side adjustment, loosen the trunk lid attaching bolts and move the trunk lid as necessary. Tighten the trunk lid attaching bolts. To make the up-and-down adjustment, loosen the hinge-to-hinge support attaching bolts and raise or lower the hinge as necessary. The trunk lid is at the correct height when it is flush with the trunk deck.
