Sensor On Coolant Pipe

NOTE
This sensor is found on 3.2L and 4.2L engines.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Place the temperature sensing portion of the sensor into a pan of water. Use a thermometer to monitor the water temperature.

  6.
  7. Measure the resistance across the sensor terminals while the sensor is in the water. Gradually raise the temperature up to 100°C.
  8.
  9. The resistance should smoothly and gradually change as the temperature changes. If there are drop-offs or sudden changes in resistance, replace the sensor.

Sensor On Radiator

NOTE
This sensor is found on 4.2L engines.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Place the temperature sensing portion of the sensor into a pan of hot water. Use a thermometer to monitor the water temperature.
  6.
  7. Measure the resistance across the sensor terminals while the sensor is in the water. Compare the obtained reading to specifications in the illustration. Range A displays the proper resistance values from 0-50°C and range B from 50-100° C.
