Removal & Installation



3.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake manifold.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the electrical connectors at the front of the cylinder head cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts from the cylinder head cover, then remove the cover from the engine. You may need to knock it lightly with a rubber mallet to break the seal.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).

4.2L Engines
Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake hose between the air filter and throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bracket from below the ignition coils.
  6.  
  7. Pull off the connectors from the ignition coils, then remove the coils from the cylinder head cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hoses.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the bolts in the sequence from 12 to 1, then remove the cylinder head cover.

  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Apply sealant to the points shown in the illustration. Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in sequence from 1 to 12 to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm)

Right Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake hose between the air filter and throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Pull off the connectors from the ignition coils, then remove the coils from the cylinder head cover.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the line for the secondary air injection system from the cylinder head cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the bolts in the sequence from 12 through 1, then remove the cylinder head cover.

  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Apply sealant to the points shown in the illustration. Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in sequence from 1 to 12 to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm)
