Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Unplug the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor from the engine.
  6.

To install:

  1. Install the sensor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  2.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.

Testing

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Unplug the connector from the oil pressure sensor. The sensor is usually threaded into the side of the engine block or oil filter housing and has a single wire coming from it. If oil is found inside the connector, replace the sensor as it is leaking internally.
  4.
  5. Connect a jumper wire between the harness plug terminal and ground. With the ignition ON , the oil light in the dash should be lit. If not, either the bulb or wiring is faulty.
  6.
  7. Connect an ohmmeter between the terminal of the sensor and ground. With the engine stopped, there should be continuity. With the engine running, no continuity should exist. If not, the sensor is faulty or the oil pressure is low.
  8.
  9. To test the oil pressure, it will be necessary to remove the sensor and install a oil pressure testing gauge in its place. The oil pressure should be 44 psi (3 bar) at idle. Pressure should not exceed 102 psi (7 bar) at higher engine speeds; if necessary replace the pump.
