3.2L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Mark the direction of rotation on the belt.
  6.  
  7. Screw a M8x50 bolt into the threaded hole of the tensioner to release tension on the belt. Screw the bolt in only far enough to allow removal of the belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the belt.

  11. If necessary to remove the belt pulley, use wrench VAG 1590 or similar to secure the pulley, then remove the 3 bolts securing it to the pump.

  13. Remove the 3 pump bolts. If the pulley is still installed, the bolts can be accessed through the holes in the pulley.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the following:

    Moisten a new O-ring with coolant.
     
    Tighten the mounting bolts to 5 ft. lbs. (8 Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly.
  6.  
  7. Mark the direction of rotation on the belt.
  8.  
  9. Rotate the tensioner using a 19mm wrench and secure it in the released position using tool T10060A or a similar sized pin punch. Remove the belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the timing belt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 bolts from the timing belt cover (1), then remove the bolts securing the water pump.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the following:

    Be sure to use a new seal with the coolant pump.
     
    Tighten the mounting bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm)
