Blower Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



240 Series and Coupe
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the sound insulation and side panels on both sides of the radio, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Remove the control panel and center console.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect, as required, the center air vents, the cable and electrical connectors from the clock, the glove compartment and air ducts for the center air vents.
  8.  
  9. From the right side, remove the air ducts and disconnect the vacuum hoses from the shutter actuators.
  10.  
  11. Fold back the floor mat, remove the rear floor duct screw and move the duct aside.
  12.  
  13. Remove the outer blower motor casing and the blower motor wheel.
  14.  

It may be necessary to remove the support from under the glove compartment in order to remove the blower motor casing.

  1. Disconnect the blower motor switch from the center console and the electrical leads from the switch.
  2.  
  3. From the left side, disconnect the air ducts and the vacuum hoses from the shutter actuators.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the inner blower motor casing, the vacuum hose from the rear floor shutter actuator, the electrical connector and the blower motor.
  6.  

Should the blower motor need to be replaced, a modified replacement unit is available. Certain modifications must be done and instructions are included with the new assembly.

To install:
  1. Clean heater housing of all dirt, leaves, etc. before installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the blower motor, the electrical connector, the vacuum hose to the rear floor shutter actuator and the inner blower motor casing.
  4.  
  5. Install the blower motor wheel and the outer blower motor casing.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear floor air duct and the floor mat.
  8.  
  9. At the left side, connect the air ducts and the vacuum hoses to the shutter actuators.
  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical leads to the blower motor switch and the switch to the center console.
  12.  
  13. At the right side, install the air ducts and connect the vacuum hoses to the shutter actuators.
  14.  
  15. Install or connect, as required, the center air vents, the cable and electrical connectors to the clock, the glove compartment and air ducts for the center air vents.
  16.  
  17. Install the control panel and center console.
  18.  
  19. Install the sound insulation and side panels to both sides of the radio.
  20.  
  21. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  22.  
  23. Check the system for proper operation.
  24.  

On some vehicles, a drum type fan is used which can be balanced by fitting steel clips to the outer edge. On most vehicles, a hose is connected to the fan housing to supply cooling air to avoid damage to the fan motor assembly.

740 Series
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower glove box panel and the glove box.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the electrical connector from the blower motor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the blower motor-to-housing screws and the blower motor assembly.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Clean the heater housing of all dirt, leaves, etc. before installation.
  2.  
  3. Attach the electrical connector to the blower motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the motor, screws and panel beneath the glove compartment.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Check the blower motor operation.
  10.  

760, 780, 900 Series and S90/V90 Models
With Automatic Climate Control (ACC)

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower glove box panel.
  4.  
  5. From the right side, remove the instep molding.
  6.  
  7. Remove the panel from above the control unit, being careful not damage it.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the electrical connector from the control unit.
  10.  
  11. Remove the control unit-to-bracket bolts and the control unit.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bracket-to-chassis bolts and the bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the electrical connector from the blower motor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ventilation pipe, blower motor-to-housing screws and blower motor.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Clean the heater housing of all dirt, leaves, etc. before installation. Install the blower motor and ventilation pipe.
  2.  
  3. Fasten the electrical connector to the blower motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the control unit bracket and control unit.
  6.  
  7. Attach the electrical connector to the control unit.
  8.  
  9. Install the panel above the control unit, the instep panel and the lower glove box panel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Check the blower motor operation.
  14.

with Electronic Climate Control (ECC)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. From the right side, remove the lower glove box panel and the glove box.
  4.  
  5. Remove the electrical connector and the mounting bracket from the blower motor housing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the electrical connector from the blower motor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the blower motor-to-housing screws and the motor.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Clean the heater housing of all dirt, leaves, etc. before installation.
  2.  
  3. Position the rubber seal to the blower motor and install the assembly.
  4.  
  5. Attach the electrical connector to the blower motor and the positive terminal to the housing.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Check all blower motor speeds for proper operation.
  10.  
  11. Install the glove box and the lower panel.
  12.  

850 and C70/S70/V70 Series

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the following:

    Three passenger's side soundproofing panel screws and panel
     
    Four glove compartment screws and glove compartment
     
    Four glove compartment door screws and door
     
    On vehicles equipped with a passenger side airbag, remove the support brace for the air bag module
     
    Fan motor connector
     
    Cable duct from the fan motor
     
    Two connectors from the brackets
     
    Four fan motor screws and fan motor
     

  4.  

To install:
  1. Install the following in order:

    New fan motor and attaching screws
     
    Two connectors in the brackets
     
    Cable duct to the fan motor
     
    The support brace for the air bag module
     

  2.  
  3. Install the glove compartment and door using the screws.
  4.  
  5. Refit the soundproofing panel and screws.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Test the fan motor function.
  10.
