Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Air intake assembly
     
    Oil dipstick assembly
     
    Right hand front wheel
     
    Inner fender liner
     
    Engine splashguard
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts for the oil cooling system and hang the system off to the side.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower charge air pipe, if equipped
     
    Pressure hose and return hose from power steering pump
     
    Power steering hose bracket and move to one side
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Oil pan
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-rings for oil pan
     
    Oil pan and tighten the bolts as follows:
     

    1. Tighten bolts 1, 2, 3 and 4 to 24 inch lbs. (3 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Tighten bolts 5 to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and then to 35 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
    4.  
    5. Tighten all bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm). Start at the transmission and work forward in pairs.

      Oil cooling system using new O-rings
       
      A/C compressor
       
      Accessory drive belts
       
      Oil pressure and return hoses for the power steering pump
       
      Engine splashguard
       
      Inner fender liner
       
      Wheel
       
      Oil dipstick assembly
       
      Air intake pipe

  3. Start engine and check for leaks.

Inline 6-Cylinder Engines


Drain the engine oil
 
Remove or disconnect the following:
  1. Oil dipstick tube
  2.  
  3. Turbo charge air pipe, if equipped
  4.  
  5. Turbo air intake pipe, if equipped
  6.  

 
Raise and support the engine.
 
Remove or disconnect the following:

Lower engine cover
 
Front air baffle
 
Oil filter
 
Front wheel
 
Lower ball joints nuts
 
Anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar
 
Right-hand axle shaft center bolt
 
Steering gear
 
Front engine mounting bolts
 
Torque rod including the mounting in the sub-frame
 
Wheel spindles
 
Oil pipe for the steering gear from the snap fasteners along the sub-frame
 
EVAP canister hose
 
Fuel line for the engine block heater, if equipped
 
Negative ground cable bracket
 
Heated oxygen (HO2) sensor connectors
 

 
Lower the sub-frame slightly.
 
Remove the following:

Oil cooler
 
Oil pan
 

 

To install:



Install or connect the following:
  1. New O-rings
  2.  
  3. Oil pan and tighten the bolts as follows:
  4.  
  5. Tighten bolts 1, 2, 3 and 4 to 2 ft. lbs. (3 Nm)
  6.  
  7. Tighten bolts 5 to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and then to 35 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
  8.  
  9. Tighten all bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm). Start at the transmission and work forward in pairs.
  10.  



Oil cooler with new O-rings
 

 
Tighten the sub-frame bolts to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm) plus 120 degrees.
 
Install or connect the following:
  1. Oil pipe for the steering gear from the snap fasteners along the sub-frame
  2.  
  3. EVAP canister hose
  4.  
  5. Fuel line for the engine block heater, if equipped
  6.  
  7. Negative ground cable bracket
  8.  
  9. Heated oxygen (HO2) sensor connectors
  10.  
  11. Wheel spindles
  12.  
  13. Steering gear. Tighten fasteners to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Front engine mounting bolts. Tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Torque rod. Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar. Tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Lower ball joints nuts. Tighten to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Front air baffle
  24.  
  25. Lower engine cover
  26.  
  27. Engine mounts
  28.  
  29. Oil dipstick tube
  30.  
  31. Turbo air intake pipe, if equipped
  32.  
  33. Turbo charge air pipe, if equipped
  34.  

 
Start the engine and check for leaks.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Splash guard, if equipped
     
    Left and right motor mounts
     

  6.  
  7. Raise and support the engine.

    Front axle crossmember
     
    Oil pan support bracket
     
    Oil pan
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan with a new gasket and tighten the bolts to 96 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Oil pan support bracket
     
    Front axle crossmember
     
    Left and right motor mounts
     
    Splash guard, if equipped
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

6-Cylinder Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Splash guard, if equipped
     
    Left and right motor mounts
     

  6.  
  7. Raise and support the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front axle crossmember
     
    Oil pan support bracket
     
    Oil pan
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan with a new gasket and tighten the bolts to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Oil pan support bracket
     
    Front axle crossmember
     
    Left and right motor mounts
     
    Splash guard, if equipped
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

  1. Drain the engine oil
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Oil dipstick tube
     
    Turbo charge air pipe, if equipped
     
    Turbo air intake pipe, if equipped
     

  4.  
  5. Raise and support the engine.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower engine cover
     
    Front air baffle
     
    Oil filter
     
    Front wheel
     
    Lower ball joints nuts
     
    Anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar
     
    Right-hand axle shaft center bolt
     
    Steering gear
     
    Front engine mounting bolts
     
    Torque rod including the mounting in the sub-frame
     
    Wheel spindles
     
    Oil pipe for the steering gear from the snap fasteners along the sub-frame
     
    EVAP canister hose
     
    Fuel line for the engine block heater, if equipped
     
    Negative ground cable bracket
     
    Heated oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connectors
     

  8.  
  9. Lower the sub-frame slightly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the following:

    Oil cooler
     
    Oil pan
     

  12.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-rings
     
    Oil pan and tighten the bolts as follows:
     

    1. Tighten bolts 1, 2, 3 and 4 to 24 inch lbs. (3 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Tighten bolt 5 to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and then to 35 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
    4.  
    5. Tighten all bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm). Start at the transmission and work forward in pairs.

    Steering gear. Tighten fasteners to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Front engine mounting bolts. Tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Torque rod. Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar. Tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Lower ball joints nuts. Tighten to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Front air baffle
     
    Lower engine cover
     
    Engine mounts
     
    Oil dipstick tube
     
    Turbo air intake pipe, if equipped
     
    Turbo charge air pipe, if equipped
     

  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

5-Cylinder Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and mount on a suitable work stand.

    Oil filter
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil passage O-rings
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New oil passage O-rings
     
    Oil pan and tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm)
     
    New oil filter
     

  2.  
  3. Install the engine into the vehicle.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Oil dipstick tube
     
    Splashguard
     
    Oil filter
     
    Oil cooler
     
    Oil pan
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-rings for oil pan
     
    Oil pan and tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm)
     
    Oil cooler with new O-rings
     
    New oil filter
     
    Oil dipstick tube
     
    Splashguard
