Volvo Coupes/Sedans/Wagons 1970-1989 Repair Guide
Combination Manifold (Carbureted Engines)
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Remove the exhaust manifold preheating plate. Remove the nuts and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
Remove the air cleaner. Disconnect the throttle, choke, and downshift linkage, if so equipped. Label and disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hoses, and the vacuum hoses for the distributor advance, and power brake, if so equipped.
Remove the nuts and slide the combination manifold off the studs. Remove and discard the old manifold gasket.
To install, reverse the above procedure. Remember to use a new manifold gasket and exhaust pipe flange gasket in assembly. Most manifold gaskets have definite inside and outside faces; make sure it is correctly positioned. Tighten the manifold retaining nuts to 13-16 ft. lbs. (18-22 Nm).
