Every six months or 6000 miles (9662 km), the distributor shaft, cam lobes, and advance mechanism are lubricated. To lubricate the distributor shaft, fill the oil cup on the side of the distributor with light engine oil. The cam lobes are lightly smeared with a suitable silicone cam lobe grease. The advance mechanism is lubricated by pouring two or three drops of SAE 10W engine oil on the wick of the distributor shaft.
Since there is no rubbing block, cam, or breaker points in the electronic ignition system, the only lubrication required is to remove the distributor cap and rotor and soak the felt wick in the distributor shaft center with one or two drops of motor oil.
If you cannot remove the distributor cap because it seems to be catching on something, rotate the engine to a different position by hand, then remove the cap.
When oiling the felt wick, be very careful not to splash any oil on the impulse sender or any other electronic ignition components inside the distributor.
