REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1800, 140 and 160 Series

See Figure 1

  1. On 140 and 160 models, remove the armrest. It is retained by one or more screws, some hidden under plastic cover. Pop off the covers, remove the screws and, on the 160 series, turn the plastic ring at the front several turns to the left.
  2.

Push the armrest forwards so that the hook at the front edge disengages. Remove the armrest.

  1. Remove the window winder. Position the winder so that the arm points down. Push in on the hub of the winder, then push down on it. This should loosen the spring clip holding the winder onto the axle. An alternate method is to straighten a paper clip and bend a small "J" onto the bottom. Use it to reach between the winder and the door panel, snag the clip and pull it out. When doing this, keep your other hand over the top of the winder. Otherwise, when the clip comes free it will fly to an undisclosed location, never to be seen again.

Fig. Fig. 1: Make sure you have a firm grasp on the spring clip retaining the window winder-as indicated by the arrows

  1. The door panel is removed by gently prying the edge away from the door. Use a broad flat tool inserted between the panel and the metal of the door. The idea is to separate the clips without damage so they may be reused.
  2.
  3. Proceed around the door until all the clips are released. Remove the door panel by lifting up to free the lip at the window edge.
  4.

Inside the door is either a paper or plastic moisture barrier. It may be removed for access to the door parts but it must not be ripped or torn. Should it become damaged, either replace it (plastic replacements are available for paper liners) or repair it with waterproof tape. It must be reinstalled intact after any door repairs

  1. Before reinstalling the door panel, check every clip to insure that it is properly located and not damaged. Replace any that are unusable.
  2.
  3. Position the door panel onto the top of the door and seat the lip at the window rail. It may require gentle tapping to seat properly.
  4.
  5. Making sure each clip aligns with its hole, proceed around the door and tap each clip into place.
  6.
  7. Fit the spring clip onto the window winder so that the open end points along the long part of the winder. Place the winder onto the axle-it was pointing down when you removed it-and give it a sharp tap. The winder will move into place and the clip will lock onto the slot in the axle.
  8.
  9. On 140 and 160 series, reinstall the armrest. Don't forget the plastic screw covers if any were removed.
  10.

200 Series

See Figures 2 through 8

  1. Remove the door pocket by turning the three studs 90° and lifting off the pocket.

  1. The door panel is removed by gently prying the edge away from the door. Use a broad flat tool inserted between the panel and the metal of the door. The idea is to separate the clips without damage so they may be reused.

  1. Before reinstalling the door panel, check every clip to insure that it is properly located and not damaged. Replace any that are unusable.
  2.

To install:
  1. Position the door panel onto the top of the door and seat the lip at the window rail. It may require gentle tapping to seat properly.
  2.
  3. Making sure each clip aligns with its hole, proceed around the door and tap each clip into place.
  4.
  5. Install the window winder, the lock button and the release handle housing.
  6.
  7. Install the armrest and the door pocket.
  8.

700 Series

See Figures 9 and 10

  1. Carefully pry the trim strip loose from the face of handgrip. Remove the two concealed screws and remove the handgrip. If the car has manually operated windows, remove the window winder.
  2.
  3. Remove the speaker grille and speaker. On 740 and 760 models, the grille is part of the longer panel held on by two concealed screws. The separate grille on the 780 is held by two screws located under the plastic trim at the lower end. Disengage wiring at the nearest connectors as access is gained.
  4.
  5. On 740/760, remove the lock button. On 780 series, remove the two large plastic clips at the bottom of the door panel.

  1. On 780 models lift the panel up and away from the door. For 740/760 models, the door panel is removed by gently prying the edge away from the door. Use a broad flat tool inserted between the panel and the metal of the door. The idea is to separate the clips without damage so they may be reused. Proceed around the door until all the clips are released. Remove the door panel by lifting up to free the lip at the window edge.
  2.

Inside the door is a plastic moisture barrier. It may be removed for access to the door parts but it must not be ripped or torn. Should it become damaged, replace it or repair it with waterproof tape. It must be reinstalled intact after any door repairs

  1. On 780 series, remove the housing which surrounds the door release lever after the panel is removed. This will make reinstallation much easier.
  2.
  3. Before reinstalling the door panel, check every clip (740 and 760) to insure that it is properly located and not damaged. Replace any that are unusable.
  4.
  5. Position the door panel onto the top of the door and seat the lip at the window rail. It may require gentle tapping to seat properly. Making sure each clip aligns with its hole, proceed around the door and tap each clip into place. Connect the wiring harnesses as the components move into place.
  6.
  7. For the 780, install the two large clips at the bottom of the panel and the two screws under the armrest.
  8.
  9. Install the speaker and grille and connect the wiring.
  10.
  11. Install the door release housing and knob on the 780 series.
  12.
  13. Install the handgrip and install the cover strip. If the window winder was removed, reinstall it.
