Volvo Coupes/Sedans/Wagons 1970-1989 Repair Guide

Tow Trucks

See Figure 1

If it becomes necessary to tow your Volvo with a tow truck, carefully observe the placement of hooks, slings and chains. Through 1987, Volvos can be towed using conventional slings and J-hooks. From 1988 on, it is recommended that the car ONLY be towed by wheel-lift equipment or transported on a flatbed. Hooking slings under the 1988 and 1989 cars can cause severe damage to the radiator and air conditioning lines at the front, and to the bumper and spoiler at the rear.
