Power Sunroof



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Inspect terminal for poor connections, loose wires, bent, broken, or corroded pins, and then verify that the connector is securely fastened.
  8.  
  9. Check continuity between the terminals while operating the switch.
  10.  
  11. If there is no continuity when the switch is in the ON position, replace switch.
  12.  
  13. Check for battery voltage at the lead wire of connection to the power sunroof switch.
    1. If battery voltage is absent, check the fuse for the power sunroof.
    2.  
    3. If battery voltage is present, check through the switch for power delivery.
    4.  
    5. Replace switch if faulty.

Removal & Installation
Motor

When removing the motor be sure that the sunroof is in the fully closed position.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
    NOTE
    After removing the key, wait one minute before starting work.

  4.  
  5. Remove the Upper Electronic Module (UEM) and rearview mirror assembly:
    1. Remove the interior lighting.
    2.  
    3. Remove the cover over the connector for the rear view mirror and control module.
    4.  
    5. Remove the cable spring using a screwdriver.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the connector by pressing the catch using a small screwdriver.

  7. Remove plastic molding around the headliner/sunroof unit.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 bolts for the sunroof motor.
  10.  
  11. Carefully lower the headliner.
    NOTE
    Position several spacers between the sunroof unit and the headliner to avoid long term kinks in the material.

  13. Carefully remove the bolt hidden behind the headliner.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the sunroof motor.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Place the sunroof motor into position with the 3 M5 bolts. Tighten to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
  2.  
  3. Install the Upper Electronic Module (UEM) and rearview mirror assembly:
    1. Connect the electrical connector.
    2.  
    3. Attach the cable spring.
    4.  
    5. Replace the connector cover.
    6.  
    7. Install the interior lighting.
    8.

  5. Install the plastic molding around the headliner/sunroof.
    NOTE
    Press one corner of the headliner into place, continue along one of the long sides and continue to one of the shorter sides and to the corners. Finish with a long side.

  7. Check that the sunroof is operates correctly.
  8.  

Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The negative battery cable
     
    The interior lighting
     
    Press out the catches of the switch and pull the switch outwards and upwards
     
    Remove the catch and the conductive strap

To install:

  1. Press in the conductive strap. Press in the catch.
  2.  
  3. Correctly position the rear of the switch and press the switch into place.
  4.  
  5. Install the interior lighting.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
